Amarillo Sex Crimes Defense Attorney Offers Free Consultations: Former Amarillo police officer Earnest Mcdonald III indicted on child porn charges

Posted on July 14, 2017 by Jesse Quackenbush, Attorney

Former Amarillo police officer Earnest McDonald III has been indicted on child pornography charges.

Earnest Tillman McDonald III was arrested and charged with the child porn charges in August 2016, after the Amarillo Police Department received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which led to an investigation. The information was that Twitter had detected images that could be child pornography. The images were linked to an account that belonged to a Potter County resident, who was later identified as McDonald.

Pending the Internal Affairs investigation, McDonald was placed on administrative leave. He was suspended indefinitely from the APD on Sept. 9, 2016. He had been with the Department since 2008.

Details in the criminal complaint regarding the case against McDonald described images containing child pornography had been uploaded to Twitter from a profile that was listed as “MmmMmm23538220.” When that profile was searched a phone number linked to a gmail account was discovered. That same phone number was linked to a Facebook account registered to a “Mac McDonald,” who was then determined to be Earnest McDonald III.

The case was submitted by the investigator to the 47th District Attorney’s Office, which accepted a two-count complaint of Possession of Child Pornography. McDonald was formally indicted on the charges on June 28, 2017.
